Is This Your Grandmother’s Recipe?

I’m sure we all feel that our grandmothers are the best cooks and bakers the world has ever seen. There is something magical about their cooking, isn’t there? They hardly ever use any special ingredients, just the very everyday stuff you can always find in your pantry. Yet, they come up with the most amazing dishes, cakes and treats you could ever think of.

My grandma was just like that. She lived to be 97 and I know she saw some hard times, too, so that must have been one of the reasons why she learned to be very creative with her recipes. This linzer cookie recipe from Baking Yummies instantly reminded me of her. She used to make cookies very similar to these, and the whole family loved them.

Six ingredients is all you need to make these and chances are, you probably already have these at hand. Some people consider these “holiday cookies” and I have to admit, I always make these during the holidays. However, these are so delicious they deserve to be enjoyed year ’round!

Quick Tip: This recipe makes about 20-25 cookies (of course, depending on the shape and size of your cookie cutters).

These adorable and delicious little cookies are traditionally made for the Jewish holiday of Purim. The story goes that the villain of the story, named Haman, wore a tricorne hat. However, the good news these delicious cookies don’t require you to be Jewish or have a holiday to make these cookies. These cookies are made with a brown butter dough flavored with vanilla beans. They’re filled with a hazelnut brown butter and apricot jam, then the dough is pinched up to form the tricorne shape. Bake them, sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy!

These little cookies are perfect for a little treat. They’re just big enough for a couple of bites, so they’re perfect to satisfy your sweet tooth. They’re such perfect little cookies that are great for get-togethers, snacks, holidays, parties or just as a regular dessert.

Your typical pancakes take on a new and more convenient form! The Danish did it right with these aebleskiver pancake balls. Light as air these go down like water – and trust me – once you pop you can’t stop!

They are perfect for breakfast on the go, or even a tasty dessert. Serve these with a dusting of powdered sugar and a side of fruit preserves for a delicious treat. If you don’t have the special aebleskiver pan, no problem! A mini muffin tin works just as well, although the shape will be a little different but the taste won’t change. Enjoy!

When you’re having the busiest week of your life, simple recipes are a welcomed respite, from our long baked meats and slow cooked dishes. With a side dish as simple as this, you’ll have plenty of time to spend with the family. This only takes 2 minutes two prepared and about 20 minutes to bake, but the memories will stick with you! Classic cheesecakes can be delicious, but they have a reputation for being fairly heavy.  If you want something similar that is a bit lighter and more warm weather-appropriate, you should give this Roasted Strawberry & Ginger Ricotta Cheesecake a try.  It has a delicious and decadent flavor without weighing you down.

I am a devout cheesecake lover, but even I have to admit that cheesecakes can be extremely heavy, especially if they have the rich toppings and crust that I like the most.  I thought that I would give a ricotta cheesecake a try.  I have to say, I was very pleased.  It was rather light and fluffy, allowing me to enjoy all of those delightful sweet and piquant flavors without getting too bogged down after a few bites.  (And who wants to get bogged down on a hot late-summer day?)
