With spring here and summer just around the corner, it’s that time of year again. It’s time for picnics and backyard barbecues. And what is a picnic or a backyard barbecue without some classic coleslaw salad?

Every backyard barbecue has to have hotdogs, hamburgers, fruit salad, potato salad and the classic coleslaw. And with the weather warming up, it’s the perfect time to try out this absolutely delicious creamy coleslaw.

Not only is coleslaw a classic must-have, but it’s a great way to provide a refreshing dish for those warm evenings spent with friends and family. The cool cabbage and tangy dressing are a perfect way to cool down before diving in for some juicy watermelon and sweet cake.

But don’t worry that you’ll spend too much time trying to get this ready. Use a bag of pre-shredded cabbage makes this recipe so easy to get ready.

If you enjoy the flavor of good barbecue but don’t feel like firing up the grill (or if it’s a bit outside of grilling season in your part of the world), your slow cooker is a good tool for re-creating that great BBQ flavor indoors. This Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken is really savory and tender and is low-hassle enough for a regular family meal but works well for most any gathering.

The weather has been turning cooler here, and my old grill has finally beat the dust, so alas, I am done with outdoor cooking until next year, it seems. But I had a hankering for some barbecue, so I gave this barbecue chicken recipe a try. I have to say, the chicken came out nice and moist, and I thought that the spice blend was excellent.

Make a Tasty Side For Any Gathering Without Straining Yourself Too Much Doing It

Give that favorite mac salad recipe of yours a new rival with this Hawaiian Macaroni Salad recipe!  It’s incredibly simple to put together and makes for a great side for most any large gathering. To be honest with you, sometimes I have this for lunch on its own, instead of serving it as a side dish! Though perhaps not QUITE as ubiquitous as cole slaw or potato salad, you will see macaroni salad, or “mac salad” as it is often called, at many a tailgate, barbecue, potluck, and picnic across America, particularly in the South.

This Hawaiian mac salad, though very similar to the Southern version of which I am the most familiar, does something a little different with the dressing and makes use of a somewhat different vegetable mixture, so I thought I would give this variation a try.

My husband really enjoyed this version of mac salad and I was super surprised. You see, my hubby is quite particular about his mac salad and he doesn’t like the recipe to be changed up in the least. Welp, he enjoyed this version. Winning!

If you like cheese and bacon, you’ll love this Chicken Monterey recipe!  Have restaurant-caliber flavor in about 45 minutes–quick and easy enough for even a hectic midweek night. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I suppose that the Chili’s recipe developers ought to feel very flattered right about now.  I wouldn’t call this any ordinary imitation, though.  You had me at cheese and bacon–yum!

Some may say that this would be better cooked on the grill, but I thought that it turned out very nicely this way.  Baking it in the oven made it very low-hassle, too.  I served it with some green beans and macaroni and cheese (can you tell that we love cheese around here?), but I am sure that it would go with plenty of other things: wild rice, baked beans, cole slaw, maybe even a simple rice casserole would work.

What an easy recipe for your grill – and aside from the time to marinate, it won’t take you all that long to make, either. This Filipino Barbecue Pork on a Stick combines a touch of the exotic with all of the great familiar flavors of American BBQ. This is sure to be a hit at your next cookout or tailgate party, or maybe you’d just like to wow your friends and family with something amazingly delicious! I can never resist grabbing a couple of tasty skewers of barbecue chicken or pork when I see it at the Chinese buffet.

I was itching for an excuse to break out the grill another time or two, and I have to say I was rather well rewarded. Definitely worth staying outside for a moment, even if the weather is getting colder. Yum!

Plus, if you’re going to make this outside all you have to do is put your hat and gloves on if the weather is starting to get nippy. Trust me, it’ll be well worth the effort.

If you want something with barbecue flavor but don’t have the time (or weather) to do any elaborate grilling, this Slow Cooker Barbecue Pork recipe is a great way to bring that sort of meal to your table.  It is very low-hassle and can easily be refrigerated and re-heated as needed.

I enjoy my barbecue and like breaking out the grill when I can, but I realize that that’s not really an option all the time (even where I am now, there is a limit to outdoor grilling season, and I understand all too well how much “babysitting” that good charcoal grilling can entail).  Thankfully, the Crock-Pot can make a really tender, savory meat dish indoors at any time of year and with minimal hassle.  Even if this recipe isn’t 100% “authentic,” I have to say that it has great barbecue flavor.
