Brown Sugar Honey Mustard Baked Ham – A Holiday Tradition

The kids in my daughter’s eighth-grade class were planning a trip to go to Washington D.C.

It was a great idea I thought, so informational and educational for everyone. The only issue that I had was it was going to be pretty costly. I suggested at the parent involvement meeting that they do some sort of fundraising in order to cover some of the costs. All the other parents were on board for that. An idea was brought up for a dinner.

There was a shout out for spaghetti, but they already had one of those for the basketball team. I said, “What about a traditional meat and potatoes style? We are sure to bring in a crowd then.” We voted and ham won the main entree. We wanted to do something that was more than just the plain meat, and it was brought up to glaze with honey and cinnamon.

It was a homemade glaze so it wouldn’t cost a lot, and we could do tons of ham for a very low price. It was just like this recipe from Facebook. The ham dinner was really easy to make and it went over really well among the community members. The kids made a big portion of the funds they needed to head out for their trip that spring too!

When I went home to visit my parents this last time, we were staying for the whole week.

Thankfully, they have a pretty large house with extra bedrooms so we stayed comfortably the whole time. Well, I’m always comfortable there but when you show up with a family of five it can get a bit overwhelming. I didn’t want to make my parents cook for us the whole time we were there, but dining out is expensive. I had to think of something else.

I had found a recipe on Facebook for a brunch pie, and because I was on vacation, I had some time to spend in the kitchen. My dad and I woke up super early and went to the supermarket to get all the ingredients to make this dish. We spent the time together in the kitchen and whipped together three of these yummy morning pies.

It was a nice bonding experience that we haven’t shared in quite some time. The smell of the first pie started bringing people down the stairs before it was even out of the oven. I’m glad we made as many as we did because they all were gone by the end of the meal.

When my mother was coming for a visit from her new home in Arizona, I was over the moon excited to see her.

I remember the day that she moved like it was yesterday. She wanted to retire someplace where it was warm, and she already had friends that had headed out that way. Anyways, as I watched her drive away with that trailer full of her belongings, I was devastated. She had lived so close all my life, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do without her.

In order to take up some of my spare time, I decided that I would start baking. She was always an amazing baker, so I figured it was in my blood. I had come up with a lot of great cakes, pies, and cookies, but my favorite was a carrot cheesecake that I had seen on Facebook. It was three layers of heaven that were almost too good to make for no reason at all.

Now that Mom was on her way, I had a reason to put it together. When she showed up and saw it, she couldn’t wait to get her hands on it. Between her the kids, and my husband, I was lucky to even get a piece of it. I love making people happy with food, and this is a surefire way to do it.

When my son had his first sports banquet in middle school, I was so proud of him.

He had a wonderful year in football, and their team walked off the field undefeated. They had a lot to celebrate that season. All the parents decided that instead of doing pizza or hot dogs like they normally did, that we would put a little effort in and make a potluck meal for the boys to feast on. I was assigned the category of meat, so I knew I had a big job in front of me.

I was thinking large scale for a while until the idea of meatballs popped into my head. Everyone loves meatballs, and I had just the recipe. I had seen a French onion recipe on Facebook and figured it would be perfect for such an occasion. It was simple, quick, and there weren’t a lot of ingredients or steps required to get the job done.

I bought double the ingredients and tossed this together a couple hours before heading in. Transporting them in the crock pot was definitely the way to go. By the time the awards were all handed out, the pot was empty!

A non-alcoholic rum cake that even the kids can enjoy.

I don’t know how many times I’ve run into folks who have forgone making a delicious rum cake because they thought there would be booze in it that would intoxicate their children. Folks, when cooking with rum (or any alcohol) all of the alcohol is “burnt off” when heated.

Now that we’ve got that little piece of health info cleared up this cake doesn’t contain real rum anyway. You will be using an extract. However, if you want to sue real rum you most certainly can.

A chocolate cake that’s easy to make!

When I was a little girl my mom and dad would designate summer Sunday afternoons as ice cream sundae day. We would get bowls of vanilla ice cream and mom would set out all kinds of goodies to top it with. Chocolate syrup was always my favorite item.

As I made this chocolate syrup cake I was reminded of those wonderful childhood memories with my parents and siblings. Such good times! I think you’ll really enjoy making this cake as it’s super easy and it tastes great.

When life hands you lemons eat butterscotch caramel bites.

There are times when we all need to take a time out and just enjoy the simple pleasures of life. These caramel bites are definitely part of that equation. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy eating these yummy little morsels of desserty goodness.

I found this recipe to be very easy to follow. In fact, I was so impressed with the recipe that I decided to double it. Boy, am I glad that I did! These little bites went fast once my husband and kiddos got a hold of them.
