Sponge Cake So Good You’ll Forget Your Manners

I never thought I would say this but I think I finally have a sponge cake recipe that is better than my mother’s! She has been famous for her incredible sponge cake for as long as I can remember, and for a good reason. Let me tell you, that cake is so delightful, people have tried to buy the recipe from her! She said she’d never sell it, she’s only going to share it with her family and friends.

And because I respect her wishes I won’t be sharing her recipe today. Instead I’m sharing this one – I guess it’s not fair to say this is better than my mother’s since this isn’t a traditional sponge cake. Maybe I should say this is equally delicious, just different!

I never would have thought of adding this ingredient but fortunately I overhead a lady talking about a special sponge cake, at the church potluck. Of course I raced over, curious about this cake, and I found out they had added white chocolate to it!

If This Is A Dream, I Don’t Ever Want To Wake Up!

I know what I’m making for my family and friends for Christmas! Over the years my loved ones have learned to expect homemade gifts from me. Nothing too fancy or over the top – I just think it’s a fun way of showing them I think and care about them. I’ve made breads, cakes and candy, but this year I’m going to go with these absolutely divine magic bars!

I just had to make a test batch – not that I wanted to eat these, I just thought I’d see if they were good enough for presents… Yeah right! I gobbled up half the batch before I even told my family I was making these, haha!

These magic bars from Veganbaking.net turned out so delicious, I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to make these, after all. I might end up eating all of them myself, and then feeling bad about giving them store-bought gifts instead! I think I need to ask my husband to take these out of my sight as soon as they’re ready!

No, It’s Not Lasagna – It’s Something Even Better!

Make waves for an awesome weeknight lifesaver! This recipe has been there to help me through the worst, craziest and most exhausting days. Who would have thought you could make such a hearty meal with only a few minutes of prep work? It’s so easy, you can even have your kids make it for you. I’m not joking!

I always keep these ingredients at hand, in case one of my days turns into a chaos again. I’m not saying that happens a lot but – yeah, it happens a lot. We all know what it’s like, don’t we? When you drag your kids home, exhausted, grumpy but alive (I’m quite proud of that last part) and you realize you still have to make dinner. Not always fun, is it?

No matter how grumpy my 11-year old is, she is always ready to help me out in the kitchen when I tell her we’re making this delicious burrito casserole. All we need to do is brown the meat, mix all the ingredients together and throw some cheese on top before baking. Super simple!

Gather ’round the table for hot and hearty plates of tender chicken and creamy gravy.

I really like southern-inspired meals and this pan-fried chicken steak and country gravy recipe is one of the best. Surprisingly, this recipe is very easy to follow. There are no bells and whistles associated with making this delicious chicken and gravy. It’s all very straightforward. I like to make meals like this after church on Sunday. It’s a great way to fill your family’s tummies.

You will love the robust flavor in this chicken. Yum. That’s all I can say is, “yum”! My husband and kids really enjoyed this chicken and everyone had seconds. Even my picky eater middle-child agreed that it was a stellar meal. Yay!

If I Could Only Keep 1 Cake Recipe, It Would Be This One

When it comes to lemon cake, I don’t think anything can beat my grandma’s recipe. She was famous for making the most amazing lemon cake, and everyone in my family basically fought for the last piece! However, somewhere along the line we lost her recipe and we all have been trying to find something that would make up for it.

I doubt my grandmother ever made her lemon cake this way, but this is the tastiest one I’ve tried since starting my search for the perfect cake! It is super flavorful and moist, and it looks so beautiful that you almost don’t want to eat it.

You can drizzle it with mouth-watering glaze or eat it as is (personally, I think I almost prefer it without the glaze), and it’s the perfect companion to your morning coffee or afternoon tea.

I’ve also served this for dessert after a fancy dinner and my guests were crazy about it! They thought I had spent the whole afternoon in the kitchen making this cake – I just didn’t have it in me to tell them it took 10 minutes of prep time…

Freshly picked strawberries from the local farm are what makes this cake so special.

Now, don’t get me wrong, if you have to get your berries from your grocery store that is perfectly fine. I understand that not everyone has the privilege of having a wonderful strawberry farm just up the road from their homes. I, on the other hand, do. Yay, me! I made this cake earlier this past summer using delicious strawberries that I picked myself and it turned out better than I ever imagined.

I, personally, adore bundt cakes. They are easier to make then what one would expect. This delicious strawberry cake is no exception. Plus, the entire thing is made from scratch. No box mixes to be found here, sister!

Thick and hearty this apple-pecan bread is nothing less than stellar.

The other day I was rummaging around on the internet trying to find fall dessert recipes that I have yet to make. I came across this lovely apple-pecan sweet bread recipe over on the Small Town Woman blog and I thought I’d give it a try. Boy oh boy, am I EVER glad that I did! This isn’t your average sweet bread, folks, This is something magically delicious. Prepare to be amazed.

There is an apple orchard just up the road from my house so I took my youngest son, who homeschools, up there with me to pick out some apples so we could make this bread. I love impromptu homeschool field trips!

Quick Tip: To toast pecans just spread them on a baking and pop them in the oven at 350 degrees for about 6 – 8 minutes. Toast them whole and then chop them after they cool. If you don’t want to purchase applesauce just substitute 2 more tablespoons of oil – Small Town Woman
