I remember when I was a little girl, my grandmother would make fresh pecan pies to sell at the church bake sale every November. I always paid close attention as to how her hands worked so meticulously when she rolled out the pie crust dough and gently placed it into the tin. Such a fond memory!

One year, Grandma decided to do something different for the bake sale and turned her famous pecan pie into bars. It was a huge hit at the sale and with our family. Many years have passed since then, and grandma is gone now, but her pecan pie bars are still fresh in my memory, especially when I came across this amazing recipe. I hope you’ll make your batch of pecan bars 🙂

Hi, everyone! So, I was cruising the interwebs for a delicious banana cream pie recipe, right? Well, I came across this little gem and thought I’d share it with you guys. It’s banana cream pie…drum roll please…with chocolate! I swear, I didn’t think banana cream pie could be any better, but it did.

I’m not surprised how well this pie turned out. I mean, adding chocolate to any recipe makes it instantly awesome. Maybe I should add chocolate to my children’s Brussels Sprouts. Hmm. Anyway, you’re going to want to get crackin’ on making this pie because it’s super easy to put together and only takes 12 minutes to make!

Quick Tip: I like to load this pie up with a TON of sliced bananas. It gives it a hearty texture.

All hail the chocolate cake! As you can see, I’m quite a fan of the cocoa-laden baked treated. I love my chocolate cake moist, and I love it piled high with frosting. How do you prefer your chocolate cake? Perhaps you like to add a little mayonnaise to it. No, I’m not joking. Mayo makes chocolate cake super moist.

It might seem weird to you to put mayo in a chocolate cake, but don’t knock it until you try it, sister. It’s so good! I have to admit, the first time I read this recipe, I thought the author was crazy. You’re probably thinking the same thing about me right now. Just lock me up in the looney bin with my mayo-laced chocolate cake 🙂

Quick Tip: I think that Hellmann’s is the best mayo to use in this recipe. Do you have a favorite mayo brand?

Who else got to twirl around with sparklers or morning glories? I remember one year my twin sister singed my bangs when someone (I forget who), decided it was a better idea to have one already light and stuck in the ground to use as a pilot light. I’ll never forget the smell of burnt hair. I was fine; but, oh did it smell gross!

Independence Day is still one of my favorite celebrations. To this day there’s something magical about showing support for your community: the parades, families coming together and of course who can forget the fireworks? We would bring a big ole quilt to spread out on the grass, some snacks and head out early to grab a good spot to watch the fireworks. Some of my favorite memories are of summer nights: eating popsicles to cool off and waiting with anticipation to see what each year’s fireworks display would look like.
